More than the usual academic textbook, the present volume presents sociology as terrain that one can virtually traverse and experience. Each version of the sociological imagination captured by the chapter essays takes the readers to the realm of the taken-for-granted (such as zoological collections, food, education, entrepreneurship, religious participation, etc.) and the extraordinary (the likes of organizational fraud, climate change, labour relations, multiple modernities, etc.) - altogether presumed to be problematic and yet possible. Using the sociological perspective as the frame of reference, the readers are invited to interrogate the realities and trends which their social worlds relentlessly create for them, allowing them in return, to discover their unique locations in their cultures' social map.

The book was adapted from an investigation that was presented to the National University of the Altiplano (UNA). The objective was to determine the relationship between perceptions about the problem of environmental pollution and environmental attitudes in students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FCEDUC) of UNA Puno, Peru. The research method was the quantitative approach, the non-experimental type and the design was correlational. For this purpose, the population was made up of 778 students, with an intentional sample of 113 students. The data collection techniques were the evaluation technique and the Likert-type attitude test, the instruments being the test of perceptions of environmental pollution and the Likert scale of attitudes. The statistical design that was applied was the chi square (X2) for the hypothesis test. The results show that there is a significant relationship between the study variables of perceptions with attitudes about environmental problems according to the inferential statistics that was X2 = 62.534. It was concluded that the problem of environmental pollution is the task of all citizens to put into practice the care and preservation of the environment with attitudes that help not to contaminate nature.

"The work explores the question of how cultural landscape is perceived or constituted by peasants and what role landscape socialization and habitus play in this process. Supported by the method of reflexive photography, an innovative approach to visual sociology, 28 farmers were interviewed in three communities in central Switzerland in individual interviews and group discussions. The results of the study show that farmers in their everyday use of the world construct the concept of cultural landscape from many aspects, but that are based primarily on the agricultural management of land. The results further extend the previous approach of landscape socialization and show that perception is strongly influenced by moral values."

This book follows the successful titles “The Colourful and the Green: Chapters on Voluntary Simplicity” and “The Half-Hearted and the Hesitant: Chapters on Ecological Luxury.” The author poses the question of why, at a time of continuing devastation of nature, people’s interest in nature conservation has been decreasing. Are the media to blame or is our numbness toward ecological problems rooted in our mental makeup that tends to supress unpleasant realities? The author also wants to find out why some people have remained faithful to nature. To get to the answers, she applies sociological, philosophical, psychological, and theological perspectives. An unexpected question that may surprise some readers then becomes: Actually, why should we protect nature when it can take care of itself? It is not weak; it is strong and cruel. Librová’s students Vojtěch Pelikán, Lucie Galčanová, and Lukáš Kala interview the children of “the Colourful,” too: have they inherited their parents’ modest lifestyle?

This book tells the story of how modern environmentalism emerged in postwar Sweden. It shows that the ‘environmental turn’ in Sweden occurred as early as the autumn of 1967 and that natural scientists led the way. The most influential was the chemist Hans Palmstierna, who was both an active Social Democrat and a regular contributor to the nation’s leading morning paper. Thus, he had a unique platform from which to exert influence. Drawing on his rich and previously untapped personal archive, the book explores how popular environmental engagement developed in Sweden. The book also highlights the journalist Barbro Soller, who in the mid-1960s became Sweden’s – and indeed one of the world’s – first environmental journalists. Moreover, it demonstrates how the pioneering historian Birgitta Odén, in collaboration with the Swedish National Defence Research Institute, sought to launch an interdisciplinary research programme based in the humanities and the social sciences as early as 1967–1968. An important conclusion of the book is that environmentalism emerged in Swedish society before there was an actual environmental movement. However, from 1969 onwards new social movements began to alter the dynamics. Hence, by the time the United Nations arranged the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in June 1972, environmental knowledge had become a source of conflict between rival interests. The environmental turn in postwar Sweden is the first full-length study to emerge from the Lund Centre for the History of Knowledge (LUCK), and demonstrates how its specific take on the history of knowledge enhances historical scholarship.

Creativity is gaining in its importance within the knowledge society. Studying these complex dimensions and their long-term consequences for the economic and social progress was the object of abundant social studies n the past. But the transformation of the landscape due to creative influences, as one of the most important factors regarding structural changes in modern society, is not well represented in Slovenian geographical literature. The booklet at hand is the first attempt of establishing some geographical–developmental factors, which are encouraged by various forms of creative human activities. The geographical dispersion of human potentials is one of the key generators of creativity and social development. Some important socio–economic effects and regional disparities in the region are also in correlation with the aforementioned factors. We will try to explain some of them within a critical research view and within the form of the available space and on the other hand also show some new dimensions of social geography as a way of challenging future detailed discussions.

This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. Debates over science, facts, and values are pivotal in the struggle for environmental justice. For decades, environmental justice activists have campaigned against the misuse of science, engaging in community-led citizen science that champions knowledge produced by and for ordinary people living with environmental risks and hazards. However, post-truth politics have threatened science itself. Toxic truths examines the relationship between environmental justice and citizen science, focusing on enduring issues and new challenges in a post-truth age.The volume features a range of community-based participatory environmental health and justice research projects that seek to establish different ways of sensing, witnessing, and interpreting environmental injustice. From struggles in American hog country and contaminated indigenous communities, to local environmental controversies in Spain and China, this volume examines political strategies for seeking environmental justice. With international, interdisciplinary contributions from distinguished authors, emerging scholars and community activists, Toxic truths is essential reading for those seeking to understand the cutting edge of citizen science and activism around the world.

The first part of the book describes the developmental stages of the health resort and the main characteristics of tourist turnover in Rogaška Slatina. The emphasis is on its dependence on tourist demand and supply as well as on changing economic, social and political circumstances. The author points to the gradual loss of Rogaška Slatina's leading role among Slovene health resorts. The second section deals with the demographic, economic and spatial development of the settlement. Since Rogaška Slatina is a multi-functional tourist resort, the emphasis is on the impact of the health resort and tourist provisions as well as industry on the development and structure of work posts, the dynamics of population growth and the economic structure of the population and households. The attitudes of the local population toward health resort-related activities and tourism and the significance of tourist infrastructure for their quality of life are also analyzed.
