"This book is available as open access through the Bloomsbury Open programme and is available on www.bloomsburycollections.com. Why do we have sex education? For whom does it exist, and who is it against? This book explores these questions, ultimately calling into question the very existence of sex education itself. The analysis is centred on the marginalised lives of sex workers. This focus allows us to see sex education and sex work in a new light and provides insights into the implications of sex education in public schools and teacher education. By considering the relationship between sex education and sex work, Caitlin Howlett reveals the way in which sex education exists as a form of state violence, and continues to maintain close ties to sexism, racism, colonialism, and capitalism. Drawing on Foucauldian genealogy, feminist history, epistemology, post-humanism, and queer of color critique, Howlett calls for an end to sex education as a federally funded project and argues for new pedagogical approaches to educating about sex, gender, and sexuality in schools"--

"This book examines the history, theological beliefs and current contextual practices of faith-based NGOs who work in the area of human trafficking involving the sex industry. There are hundreds of religious organizations around the globe who minister with human trafficking survivors and sex workers, but what is really happening on the ground and how do theological beliefs support a faith-based response? Many of these groups represent their work as a cosmic battle against evil forces, yet important structural critiques are elided in the urgency to rescue women and children. Using perspectives from both NGO staff and sex workers, an interdisciplinary panel of contributors examine specific organizations, highlight marginalized voices, and analyze undergirding methodologies. In doing so, the authors provide clear critiques and establish best practice guidelines for faith-based NGOs and future religious leaders, affirming an intersection of justice based upon critical reflection and careful action. This book addresses with nuance an important topic that is often over-simplified. It will, therefore, be of great interest to scholars studying the interaction of religion to sex work and human trafficking, as well as academics of Religious Studies and Theology more generally"--

This book, co-authored by Chanelle Gallant and Elene Lam, serves as a critical examination of the systemic injustices faced by migrant sex workers, particularly in Canada and the United States. It challenges the dominant narratives of 'rescue' and 'modern slavery' that often exacerbate violence against these workers. The authors advocate for the recognition of migrant sex workers' agency and expertise, emphasizing their fight against structural violence, including state and police violence, and the anti-human trafficking industry. The book provides a platform for migrant sex workers to share their experiences and highlights their role as organizers pushing for labor rights, migrant justice, and broader social justice. It targets students, researchers, and activists interested in trafficking, labor rights, and intersectional justice, urging them to rethink traditional frameworks in favor of migrant-led initiatives and solidarity movements.
