Doelstelling: Nagaan of een tweetalige opvoeding het taalniveau van een kind (3,5 jaar) positief of negatief beïnvloedt. Middelen of methode: Interviews - Spontane taal-analyse (TOAST) - Specifiekgerichte testen: fonologie, syntaxis en semantiek (telkens receptief en productief) (Taaltest voor Kinderen, ECOSSE, ELOLA, Antwerps Articulatie- onderzoek) De resultaten worden eerst met een eentalige normgroep vergeleken. Daarna worden de verschillen tussen het Nederlands en het Frans belicht. Resultaten: Een tweetalige opvoeding heeft geen negatieve invloed op het taalniveau van onze proefpersoon. Ze haalt telkens de norm en er zijn geen merkwaardige verschillen vast te stellen tussen het Nederlands en het Frans.

Doelstelling: Deze scriptie bevat een corpus van 379 krantenartikelen. Deze artikelen werden gevonden in de Britse krant The Guardian en de Amerikaanse krant The New York Times. In deze artikelen werden neutraal en connotatief taalgebruik met elkaar vergeleken. Middelen of methode: De geselecteerde artikelen werden onderworpen aan een kritische analyse. Daarbij werden drie thema's in detail onderzocht: de aanslagen van 11 september 2001, de strijd tegen het terrorisme en de ontvoeringen in Irak. Het gebruik van zowel neutraal als connotatief taalgebruik werd besproken. Een vergelijking tussen beide kranten werd gemaakt wat betreft het gebruik van werkwoorden, bijwoorden, adjectieven en substantieven. Resultaten: Een corpus van 379 artikelen uit een Britse en een Amerikaanse krant. Een vergelijkende conclusie wat betreft neutraal en connotatief taalgebruik in beide geraadpleegde kranten. Connotatief en figuurlijk taalgebruik worden niet alleen gebruikt om veroordeling en minachting uit te drukken maar ook om medeleven en medelijden weer te geven.

Doelstelling: Deze scriptie bestaat uit twee analyses van twee chansons van Brel. Elke analyse bestaat uit twee delen. In het eerste deel bespreken we de retorische stijfiguren van het Franse chanson. In het tweede deel vergelijken we de retorische stijlfiguren uit de twee Nederlandse bewerkingen met die uit het origineel. Retorische figuren brengen telkens een connotatie met zich mee. We zullen bestuderen of de vertalers de connotaties al dan niet geïntegreerd hebben in hun versie. Middelen of methode: De bespreking van de stijlfiguren adhv de syllabus Stilistiek (2005) van Stefaan Evenepoel en "Le dictionnaire des termes littéraires" van Hendrik van Gorp et al.De vergelijkende studie adhv wat Andrew Chesterman geschreven heeft over stijlfiguren in zijn heuristische classificatie. Resultaten: Onze retorische analyse leverde verschillende resultaten op:we zijn ervan overtuigd dat de beeldspraak in Brels oeuvre een belangrijke plaats inneemt. Zijn werk bevat heel veel stijlfiguren, en die bevatten op hun beurt heel wat connotaties, zodat ze een moeilijkheid vormen voor de vertaler.De bewerkingen zijn inderdaad het resultaat van een proces waarin de vertaler beslissingen heeft moeten nemen (het behouden, weglaten, toevoegen of vervangen van de stijlfiguur) en veranderingen heeft moeten doorvoeren om tot een equivalente tekst te komen. Zo zijn bepaalde connotaties behouden en andere dan weer niet.De vergelijkende studie brengt eveneens de troeven van de Nederlandse bewerkingen aan het licht. We zijn van mening dat deze bewerkingen een nieuwe wind hebben laten waaien door beide chansons.

We are not just building the Web any more: we are on it. The latest set of applications have transformed the Web from a mere document collection into a social space: the new services developed under the banner of Web 2.0 cater to our needs of connecting through the medium and allow us to explicitly describe, maintain and develop our online self. At the same time, documents and other forms of content are not only up- and downloaded any more, but actively exchanged, filtered, organized and discussed in groups of all sizes. While the pace of change is dizzying, investigating this complex social-technological system is paramount to our ability of designing intelligent information systems that can guide us through the new online universe. Social Networks and the Semantic Web combines the concepts and the methods of two fields of investigation, which together have the power to aid in the analysis of the social Web and the design of a new class of applications that combine human intelligence with machine processing. The range of metadata needed to run a digital library and preserve its collections in the long term is much more extensive and complicated than anything in its traditional counterpart. It includes the same 'descriptive' information which guides users to the resources they require but must supplement this with comprehensive 'administrative' metadata: this encompasses technical details of the files that make up its collections, the documentation of complex intellectual property rights and the extensive set needed to support its preservation in the long-term. To accommodate all of this requires the use of multiple metadata standards, all of which have to be brought together into a single integrated whole.

Metadata in the Digital Library is a complete guide to building a digital library metadata strategy from scratch, using established metadata standards bound together by the markup language XML. The book introduces the reader to the theory of metadata and shows how it can be applied in practice. It lays out the basic principles that should underlie any metadata strategy, including its relation to such fundamentals as the digital curation lifecycle, and demonstrates how they should be put into effect. It introduces the XML language and the key standards for each type of metadata, including Dublin Core and MODS for descriptive metadata and PREMIS for its administrative and preservation counterpart. Finally, the book shows how these can all be integrated using the packaging standard METS. Two case studies from the Warburg Institute in London show how the strategy can be implemented in a working environment.

The strategy laid out in this book will ensure that a digital library's metadata will support all of its operations, be fully interoperable with others and enable its long-term preservation. It assumes no prior knowledge of metadata, XML or any of the standards that it covers. It provides both an introduction to best practices in digital library metadata and a manual for their practical implementation.
