From 1936 to 1956 the author and critic Carl Seelig visited Robert Walser regularly in the sanitorium at Herisau. During long walks through Appenzeller Land they would talk about Walser's life, and about literature and politics. Seelig documented his memories of this time in his book Wanderungen mit Robert Walser, which Percy Adlon used as the basis for his first film. This is a portrait of a poet with a muted voice, directed with great feeling and precision.
