"The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a multiplanar joint located in the dorsal complex of the pelvis. The SIJ is one of the primary articulations that provides the lower extremities stability to enable an erect, stable posture. The SIJ is well endowed with ligaments, owing to the importance of its stability as it is the primary structure for weight transfer of the trunk to the pelvis and lower extremities. Furthermore, the joint is well vascularized and heavily innervated making it a clinically significant structure with respect to primary, autoimmune and traumatic disease processes. The chapter will describe the gross anatomy of this joint as well as its embryological origins, variability, and proposed movements as it relates to the potential of the SIJ for pathogenicity [1]"--

This book focuses on lower back pain, comprehensively covering the concept, etiology, diagnosis and treatment for those types of pain specifically caused by sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Particular attention is given to understanding the pathology, diagnostic techniques and useful methods for successfully treating patients. Sacroiliac joint pain, which is one of the most common causes of non-specific lower back pain, shows no specific abnormal imaging findings on X-ray, CT or MRI; as a result, it is difficult to diagnose or even misdiagnosed. Further, in recent years the sacroiliac joint has become the subject of growing interest, and innovative implant systems such as iFuse and DIANA are now being developed for its treatment. Accordingly, Sacroiliac Joint Pain offers a valuable resource for healthcare professionals such as orthopedic surgeons, family doctors, spine surgeons, pain clinicians, rehabilitation doctors, physical therapists, osteopathists and patients suffering from lower back pain.

"Sacroiliac joint pain is one of the most common painful conditions, as disorders of this joint are often the cause or a contributing factor to back pain. Treatment of sacroiliac joint pain has advanced significantly in the last decade, ranging from minor interventions to major surgical interventions. Written for pain physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons at all levels of training and practice, this book highlights new and innovative approaches to sacroiliac disease so clinicians may incorporate current techniques into practice. The international roster of authors present up to date information on interventional and surgical pain procedures including peripheral nerve stimulation, surgical fusion, and regenerative techniques. In addition to providing well-illustrated, step-by-step guidance on procedural technique, chapters review patient selection, instrumentation, complications management, and outcomes."--Provided by publisher.

Sacroiliac Joint Techniques, a volume in the Atlas of Interventional Pain Management series, is a concise, practical guide that provides clinicians with detailed, step-by-step guidance on how to perform spinal nerve stimulation procedures for patients with chronic pain associated with sacroiliitis. This comprehensive, easy-to-follow guide offers expert coverage of how to deliver safe, accurate, and cost-effective pain relief to patients using all clinically useful imaging modalities, including ultrasound-guided techniques and fluoroscopy. With high-quality images and clear, authoritative guidance throughout, it shows exactly how to evaluate the causes of pain, identify the most promising stimulation technique, locate the site with precision, and deliver effective relief.
