Comment situer précisément la notion de tribus musicales dans sa relation à celle de spiritualité et de fait religieux ? C'est la problématique du travail de Jean-Louis Bischoff. Pour mener à bien son projet, l'auteur présente et questionne les mouvances punk, skinhead, gothique, hardcore, techno et hip-hop. Dans cette perspective, il soumet d'abord au jugement du lecteur la notion " d'homme vers le bruit ". Qu'est-ce qu'un homme vers le bruit ? En quel sens est-il légitime d'affirmer qu'il apparaît primordialement comme un être dans un monde désenchanté ? Dans la première partie de son étude, l'auteur prend en charge ces interrogations. Ensuite, scrutant les modes de déploiement de la spiritualité de l'homme vers le bruit, l'auteur rapporte la culture tribale aux éléments qui constituent une définition élémentaire du fait religieux : la tradition, les rites, la communauté, les symboles, les conduites et des croyances en un ordre suprasensible. Ce geste le conduit à faire surgir la grandeur et la misère de l'adepte du tribalisme musical ; voilà pourquoi il expose clairement, dans un troisième moment, les valeurs et les contre-valeurs de l'homme vers le bruit. Faire en sorte que les instances officielles chrétiennes et les hommes vers le bruit dialoguent est la tâche ultime que se donne l'auteur.
