The Atlas of Retinal Diseases in Nigerians is an attempt to document common retinal diseases seen by the author over the past 20 years. The book is intended to be a quick reference guide for ophthalmologist-in-training and to offer brief management modalities based on evidence in the literature. Some major landmark retinal studies are summarized to help in decision-making based on scientific evidence. A section on the use of mobile phones for taking retinal pictures is included to aid patient education and telemedicine. Finally, retinal studies by the author carried out on Nigerians is summarized at the end of the book.

Devant l'importance des enjeux en termes de santé du patient de coûts pour la collectivité et de charge de travail pour les ophtalmologistes une tendance à la rationalisation est observée avec l'apparition d'une médecine basée sur l'évidence. Il s'agit d'un outil de synthèse qui permet l'accès rapide et didactique à la médecine basée sur l'évidence avec pour chaque pathologie :- l'accès rapide à l'information afin d'appréhender dans sa globalité le rationnel de traitement de la maladie et d'informer de façon précise le patient (gain d'acuité visuelle nombre d'injections comparaison entre traitements...) ; - l'accès à un corpus de connaissance antérieur à la date de formation des nouveaux praticiens ; - le développement de l'esprit critique en s'appuyant sur l'avis des experts qui atteste de la neutralité du propos ; - la mise à disposition pour les praticiens confirmés d'un thesaurus et du détail des études avec les références bibliographiques (gain de temps dans leur recherche)."
