Abstract

This book focuses on the development and biology of germ cell and is edited by Ahmed RG, associate professor and Doctor of Developmental and Experimental Biology, Division of Anatomy and Embryology, Zoology Department, Faculty of Science, Beni-Suef University, Egypt. While many articles have appeared in journals on germ cell, this book provides you with a rare treat - an extensive and intensive study on it. It is one of a kind, offering important and valuable information about the biology of germ cell. This book covers the specification, regulation, and reprogramming of germ cell and germ line stem cells. This book provides important information about the new insight into germ cell signaling and the genotoxic in vitro studies in testicular germ cells. This book offers significant results about the origin, specification, and development of the female germ line in placental mammals and the germ cell tumors and their association with pregnancy.

Abstract

This book addresses various aspects of testicular autoimmunity. It has long been suspected that testicular autoimmunity could be one of the causes of idiopathic male infertility. However, it is very difficult to estimate the incidence of testicular autoimmunity in men, as most male patients first realize they are infertile when they start trying to conceive a child, and there is a possibility that their testes may already exhibit the end stage of testicular autoimmunity, in which lymphocytic inflammation and immunoglobulin deposition in their testes subsided long ago and only the spermatogenic disorder remains. Therefore, autopsy or biopsy for testicular tissues in men before the end stage of testicular autoimmunity and investigations using testicular autoimmunity model animals are needed to determine the epidemiology of testicular autoimmunity. Accordingly, the book discusses “the immunological fragility of testis” with regard to male infertility, reviewing aut opsy data in men and presenting experimental data using murine models of autoimmune orchitis that has been induced by immunizing with viable syngeneic testicular germ cells alone. Testicular autoimmunity in animals is also discussed.  In summary, the book provides a wealth of valuable information, not only for researchers who are interested in immunologic male infertility, but also for clinical professionals who treat these patients at hospitals.

Abstract

"Immunology of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss provides doctors and immunologists with the information they need to help couples who experience recurrent pregnancy losses. Sections cover unexplained infertility, repeated in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer failures, history of second or third trimester pregnancy losses of unknown cause, or pregnancy with a history of or active autoimmune and/or alloimmune disease. Reproductive failure (RF), including recurrent pregnancy losses (RPL) and repeated implantation failures (RIF) is rather a syndrome than a disease caused by multiple etiologies, such as anatomical, endocrine, genetic, infectious, immunological, thrombotic and unexplained etiologies, hence this book strives to present the latest information."--

Abstract

This concise and practical book is the first of its kind to examine the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in relation to blood-borne infectious diseases: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV). The book opens with a discussion of the impact of these viruses on male and female fertility, followed by specific chapters of each of them, including ART with HIV and HCV serodiscordant couples (where either the male or female is positive) and the detection and impact of HBV and HCV in human gametes and embryos. An important character on laboratory safety when performing ART with blood-borne viruses follows, and the book concludes with a discussion of ART in austere and resource-poor settings, where these infections are often dominant due to lack of treatment and access to vaccines. Written and edited by an international array of experts in reproductive medicine, Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Infectious Diseases explores questions, techniques, and related issues with the aim of effectively helping clinicians working with serodiscordant couples wishing to have children. .
