A biography of Madeleine Barot, a Christian Frenchwoman, an important member of CIMADE (Comité Inter-Mouvements Auprès Des Évacués) during the 50 years of this organization's existence. She was active in the Vichy French internment camps, where she tried to help refugees, resistants, and Jews. In 1942-43 she was engaged in saving Jews from deportation. Among others, she participated in the action known as "Les enfants du Cardinal" (Gerlier) in which 84 Jewish children were saved from deportation from the camp at Venissieux (Lyon, August 1942). Mentions, as well, actions by Protestant pastors Bögner and Bertrand who opposed the Vichy government's treatment of Jews.
