Alzheimer’s disease, a neurodegenerative disease with progressive evolution, and chronic administration of benzodiazepines, drugs acting on the GAVAa, receptor and used for their anxiolytic and sedative actions, are two public health problems mainly encountered by elderly people. Nowadays, scientists have addressed the issue of a probable association between benzodiazepines and Alzheimer’s disease. Although mechanisms explaining this association are not known, several studies have emerged. This master thesis will first recall the general aspects of benzodiazepines and Alzheimer’s disease. Then, different hypotheses about this association will be developed. Finally, three recent studies will be presented. The results of these will be compared with be compared with each other in order to know whether benzodiazepines can be considered or not as a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. La maladie d’Alzheimer, une pathologie neurodégénérative d’évolution progressive, et la prise chronique de benzodiazépines, médicaments agissant sur le récepteur GABAa et utilisés, entre autres, pour leurs actions anxiolytique et sédative, sont deux problèmes de santé publique rencontrés principalement chez les personnes âgées. Ils sont, dès lors, au cœur des débats scientifiques. De nos jours, les scientifiques se sont interrogées sur une probable association entre les benzodiazépines et la maladie d’Alzheimer. Même si aucun mécanisme expliquant cette association n’est connu, plusieurs études ont vu le jour. Ce mémoire rappellera, tout d’abord, les aspects généraux des benzodiazépines et de la maladie d’Alzheimer. Ensuite, différentes hypothèses à propos de cette association seront développées. Pour terminer, trois études récentes seront détaillées. Les résultats de celles-ci seront comparés les uns avec les autres pour pouvoir, ensuite, en tirer des conclusions et savoir si oui ou non les benzodiazépines peuvent être considérées comme un facteur de risque de la maladie d’Alzheimer.
