Doelstelling: Deze studie vergelijkt de twee Franse multimediawebsites RFI en TV5Monde. In de eerste plaats wordt geanalyseerd wie ze zijn en waar ze voor staan. Vervolgens worden de nieuwsfeiten, die ze aanbieden onder de vorm van schriftelijke en audio(visuele) fragmenten, bestudeerd qua vorm en inhoud. Tot slot, worden de verschillende instrumenten en oefeningen die ze voorstellen om Frans te leren in kaart gebracht. Middelen of methode: Deze studie is grotendeels gebaseerd op de vorm en inhoud van de twee websites, aangevuld door een corpus van drie dagen, enkel bestaande uit persberichten die gepubliceerd werden op de twee multimediawebsites, die gebruikt wordt om de vorm en inhoud van de websites te analyseren. Resultaten: Uit dit onderzoek blijkt dat RFI en TV5Monde samenwerken met AEF, een instituut die de verspreiding van de Franse cultuur en waarden centraal stelt. Vervolgens blijkt dat de twee websites elk een eigen identiteit hebben die de rode draad vormt in alle facetten van hun website. RFI profileert zich als een radiozender die de actualiteit centraal stelt. Uit dit onderzoek blijkt duidelijk dat Afrika tot op heden een belangrijke doelgroep is voor RFI. TV5Monde, daarentegen, is een televisiezender die zich op heel wat meer interestvlakken focust dan alleen maar op actualiteit. Bovendien blijkt uit het onderzoek dat TV5Monde zich duidelijk meer op Frankrijk richt.

Metabolomics has been a useful method for various study fields. However, its application in animal science does not seem to be sufficient. Metabolomics will be useful for various studies in animal science: Animal genetics and breeding, animal physiology, animal nutrition, animal products (milk, meat, eggs, and their by-products) and their processing, livestock environment, animal biotechnology, animal behavior, and animal welfare. More application examples and protocols for animal science will promote more motivation to use metabolomics effectively in the study field. Therefore, in this Special Issue, we introduced some research and review articles for “Metabolomic Applications in Anmal Science”. The main methods used were mass spectrometry or nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Not only a non-targeted, but also a targeted, analysis of metabolites is shown. The topics include dietary and pharmacological interventions and protocols for metabolomic experiments.

The Special Issue on “Remote Sensing in Agriculture: State-of-the-Art” gives an exhaustive overview of the ongoing remote sensing technology transfer into the agricultural sector. It consists of 10 high-quality papers focusing on a wide range of remote sensing models and techniques to forecast crop production and yield, to map agricultural landscape and to evaluate plant and soil biophysical features. Satellite, RPAS, and SAR data were involved. This preface describes shortly each contribution published in such Special Issue.

Recent years have seen a vast development in various methodologies for object detection and feature extraction and recognition, both in theory and in practice. When processing images, videos, or other types of multimedia, one needs efficient solutions to perform fast and reliable processing. Computational intelligence is used for medical screening where the detection of disease symptoms is carried out, in prevention monitoring to detect suspicious behavior, in agriculture systems to help with growing plants and animal breeding, in transportation systems for the control of incoming and outgoing transportation, for unmanned vehicles to detect obstacles and avoid collisions, in optics and materials for the detection of surface damage, etc. In many cases, we use developed techniques which help us to recognize some special features. In the context of this innovative research on computational intelligence, the Special Issue “Advanced Computational Intelligence for Object Detection, Feature Extraction and Recognition in Smart Sensor Environments” present an excellent opportunity for the dissemination of recent results and achievements for further innovations and development.
