From 26 May 2021, all medical device manufacturers will have to comply with the new MDR regulations. I helped Difra meet these requirements by preparing a clinical evaluation report for its VNG (videonystagmography) and VHIT (Video Head Impulse Test) devices. The VNG is used to assess patients with balance disorders by recording eye movements, as is the VHIT, a sub-test of the VNG, which measures eye movements in response to head impulses in order to assess the vestibulo-ocular reflex. To carry out the evaluation, I conducted an extensive literature search and compared the results with Difra's NYSSTAR I/II for the VNG and the HEADSTAR for the VHIT. In the case of the VNG, I found that frequency plays an essential role in the proper functioning of this device. Similarly, for the VHIT, I analysed the HEADSTAR and identified critical parameters such as frequency, number of head movements, angle of movement, distance between eyes and wall and maximum head speed. However, I discovered discrepancies between the data provided and the frequency and maximum head velocity of the HEADSTAR.

Effective Research Data Management (RDM) is a key component of research integrity and reproducible research, and its importance is increasingly emphasised by funding bodies, governments, and research institutions around the world. However, many researchers are unfamiliar with RDM best practices, and research support staff are faced with the diffi cult task of delivering support to researchers across diff erent disciplines and career stages. What strategies can institutions use to solve these problems? Engaging Researchers with Data Management is an invaluable collection of 24 case studies, drawn from institutions across the globe, that demonstrate clearly and practically how to engage the research community with RDM. These case studies together illustrate the variety of innovative strategies research institutions have developed to engage with their researchers about managing research data. Each study is presented concisely and clearly, highlighting the essential ingredients that led to its success and challenges encountered along the way. By interviewing key staff about their experiences and the organisational context, the authors of this book have created an essential resource for organisations looking to increase engagement with their research communities. This handbook is a collaboration by research institutions, for research institutions. It aims not only to inspire and engage, but also to help drive cultural change towards betier data management. It has been writien for anyone interested in RDM, or simply, good research practice.

As they set off for Madagascar in 2003, photographer Max Pam and writer Stephen Muecke adopted as their guiding principle the idea of contingency-central to which is the conscious embrace of risk and chance.

Building God’s Kingdom studies how the encounter with nineteenth century Madagascar influenced the Norwegian Protestant mission. Drawing upon rich Norwegian and Malagasy sources, entangled and multivocal stories are allowed to unfold, revealing the complex dynamics of mission encounters. Tracing Malagasy agency and pursuit of churchly independence in pre-colonial and colonial Madagascar, this study explores the power-struggles between the Malagasy, the missionaries and between the mission in Norway and Madagascar. Through careful attention to context and agency, Karina Hestad Skeie provides new perspectives on the interplay between the local and the global in Christian missions, and on the centrality and restrictions of local agency on mission policy.

Madagascar's long-term trajectory is unique: not only has GDP per capita been trending downward since 1960 (the puzzle), but every time the country has set out on path of growth, it has been stopped in its tracks by a socio-political crisis that has shattered the hopes it raised (the paradox). No satisfactory explanation of this failure has been provided so far. This book elaborates a model of intelligibility of Madagascar's downfall, based on an integrated political economy approach as well as mobilizing the most recent development theories. Combining a review of historical literature with original and sometimes unique statistical surveys, it proposes a general interpretative framework for the workings of Malagasy society. Richly documented and accessible, Puzzle and Paradox allows readers to understand Madagascar's sociopolitical history while more broadly offering an opportunity to grasp the different dimensions of development in the Global South.
