Isaac went out to the field (Genesis 24:63)? is a collection of 28 articles by 47 authors from research institutions in Israel and around the world honoring Professor Isaac Gilead on the occasion of his 71st birthday. The authors include the honoree?s mentors, colleagues, and students. Most of the articles deal with archaeological subjects, especially prehistoric and proto-historic archaeology, which are the focus of the honoree?s teaching and research. Debutee dans son Occitanie natale, l'emprise des recherches archeologiques de Jean Guilaine s'est etendue a l'ensemble du Bassin mediterraneen : peninsule Iberique, Andorre, Italie meridionale, Sicile, Grece, Chypre. En perspective : les dix millenaires qui ont conduit des ultimes societes de chasseurs-cueilleurs jusqu'au monde urbanise antique. Dix millenaires protohistoriques sont donc ici decrits, tout au long d'une vie scientifique ou sont relates, non sans humour, le cheminement, les peripeties et les principales figures. On y croise notamment Fernand Braudel, Jacques Ruffie, Jacques Le Goff ou encore Andre Miquel. Ce parcours trouve son aboutissement au College de France, ou Jean Guilaine a enseigne cette periode si essentielle de l'humanite a laquelle il a su donner sa pleine dimension. Jean Guilaine est professeur emerite au College de France, directeur d'etudes a l'EHESS et membre de l'Institut. Considere comme l'un des plus grands specialistes du Neolithique, il a notamment publie Les Chemins de la protohistoire et La Seconde Naissance de l'homme.
