Von Braun ontwikkelde de beroemde V2-raket, een dodelijk wapen dat vooral in Engeland veel slachtoffers maakte. In de VS werkte hij met veertig andere raketwetenschappers aan kernraketten. Maar ruimtevaart bleef zijn grote liefde. In 1969 zette een door hem ontwikkelde Saturnus-raket de eerste mensen op de maan.
