General aviation encompasses all the ways aircraft are used beyond commercial and military flying: private flights, barnstormers, cropdusters, and more. Here, the authors have taken on the formidable task of discussing the hundredyear history of this diverse field by focusing on the most important figures in aviation, from Clyde Cessna to Paul Poberezny, as well as organizations and the major producers of aircraft and engines.

This study examines more than 17,000 General Aviation accidents using the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System. Comparisons of Alaska to the rest of the U.S. (RoUS) included traditional demographic and environmental variables, as well as the human errors committed by aircrews. Overall, categorical differences among unsafe acts (decision errors, skill-based errors, perceptual errors, and violations) committed by pilots involved in accidents in Alaska and those in the RoUS were minimal.

In An Aviator's Field Guide to Middle-Altitude Flying, author Jason Blair shares his experience in a variety of piston, twin-engine aircraft commonly used to fly at altitudes between 10,000 and 25,000 feet MSL. This book covers the major phases of flight and the specific considerations for pilots who operate aircraft at these altitudes, including performance and fuel planning, emergencies, descent planning, navigation, weather, aircraft modifications, oxygen use, weight and balance, pilot qualifications, and insurance. With insight not found in other training manuals or part of typical flight training operations, and gained through his many years instructing and giving checkrides, Blair's book will help the pilot owner or operator evaluate the risks and challenges unique to middle-altitude flying, develop effective flight-planning practices, and take advantage of the increased efficiencies and opportunities offered through these higher operations.

Originally published as two separate books, this newly combined edition now brings together comprehensive instruction on going up and coming back down. The book shows pilots how to develop total awareness for the situation, the airplane, and the self-and to convert that awareness into perfect takeoffs and landings. The detailed yet easy-to-follow steps given here ensure pilots have the knowledge they need to go beyond rote-learned reactions and develop excellent flying skills. Each chapter defines a specific takeoff or landing situation and the set of characteristics unique to it. Author Ro
