Das aus 14 Büchern bestehende Epos Posthomerica eines gelehrten Dichters namens Quintus (3. Jh. n. Chr.) erzählt die Ereignisse des Troianischen Krieges, die zwischen der Ilias und der Odyssee einzuordnen sind. Schon während der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts waren die Urteile der Forschung zu diesem Epos bis auf wenige Ausnahmen negativ, da man Quintus als einen Nachahmer klassischer griechischer Autoren mit geringer eigener Erfindungs- und Gestaltungskraft ansah. 0Die wichtigste Intention dieses Buches ist daher, die Originalität und die poetische Gestaltungskraft des Dichters herauszuarbeiten und die negativen Bewertungen dieses Epos durch philologische, textkritische Kommentierungen des 10. Buches unter Anwendung der Prinzipien der Narratologie sowie der Inter- und Intratextualität zu widerlegen. Das zentrale Thema des 10. Buches ist das Lebensende des Paris, also des Mannes, der durch die Entführung Helenas den Troianischen Krieg verursacht hat. Paris? Lebensende kündigt im Werk des Quintus das Ende des Troianischen Krieges an. Es gilt ebenso als erste poetische Behandlung dieses Themas wie das mit seinem Tod verbundene Schicksal seiner ersten Gattin Oinone, deren Freitod Quintus Smyrnaeus im 10. Buch ausführlich darstellt.0.

Quintus von Smyrna (vermutlich 3. Jh. n. Chr.), der Dichter der 'Posthomerica', verfügte über weit mehr Originalität und poetische Gestaltungskraft, als es die traditionell negativen Bewertungen des Epos annehmen lie�en. Dies beweist Georgios P. Tsomis in seinem philologischen Kommentar zum 7. Buch anhand detaillierter narratologischer Analysen und durch die Aufdeckung zahlreicher inter- und intratextueller Bezüge. Er nuanciert so das Bild des Epikers, das die Forschung erst seit Kurzem einer grundlegenden Revision zu unterziehen begonnen hat. Als gelehrtem Dichter gelang es Quintus, einen komplexen mythologischen Stoff gro�episch zu gestalten. Zentrales Thema des 7. Buches sind die Geschehnisse auf Skyros zur Abholung Neoptolemos' nach Troja sowie seine Ankunft dort und seine erste Aristie im trojanischen Krieg.

"The Posthomerica, a Greek epic by Quintus of Smyrna believed to have been written in the third century AD, tells the story of the Trojan War beginning with the events immediately following the sack of Troy and the narrative of the Iliad. Valued as the earliest surviving account of this period, Book 14, the final book of the poem, covers much of the same ground as the lost Iliupersis (The Sack of Troy) attributed to Arctinus of Miletus, from Helen's return to Menelaus and the sacrifice of Polyxena, to the homeward journey of the victorious Greeks, which is abruptly interrupted by a divine storm. This detailed commentary divides the text of Posthomerica 14 into smaller narrative units, introducing each with an overview of the relevant literary tradition and a discussion of Quintus' possible direct models. There follows an exhaustive line-by-line commentary addressing points of literary, stylistic, lexicographic, and textual-critical interest, and providing readers with a range of notes on background and vocabulary.
