Depuis le Moyen Âge, la chanson recouvre de nombreux phénomènes. Si elle a souvent fait l’objet de monographies, l’une de ses formes reste cependant peu explorée : la chanson vocalisée, rendue au spectateur par le biais de la performance. Car étudier la chanson revient à étudier des pratiques vocales, des objets esthétiques aux formes et aux styles pluriels. Concevoir la chanson, c’est donc l’approcher dans ses différentes instances de création et dans sa diversité stylistique. Cet essai propose des pistes de recherche et des analyses pouvant être utiles au musicien mais aussi au musicologue ou au critique littéraire. Il aborde la question de la poésie vocale mais interroge également l’aspect théorique de l’objet-chanson. En somme, il ne s’agit pas tant de proposer un modèle d’analyse autonome mais d’élargir les champs de recherche, et de suggérer des réponses aux débats qui ont animé tous ceux qui se sont intéressés aux formes poétiques vocales.

The musicological study of popular music has developed, particularly over the past twenty years, into an established aspect of the discipline.
