Proceedings of the ASCE Pipeline Division Specialty Conference, held in Houston, Texas, August 21-24, 2005. Sponsored by the Pipeline Division of ASCE. This collection of 91 papers covers a wide range of topics related to the advancement of water, wastewater, oil, and gas pipelines. Public agencies and private companies are challenged by the task of replacing, rehabilitating, and expanding their pipeline infrastructure to maintain services and supply lines without interruption. Continued advances in pipeline materials, controls, and nondestructive testing support the growth of pipeline networks in these communities. This collection is an effective means of sharing the advances in pipeline design, construction, and maintenance among practitioners, researchers, and designers.

Prepared by the Pipeline Planning and Design Committee and the Underground Pipeline Asset Management Committee of the Pipeline Division of ASCE This manual provides a general overview of methods used in placing utility cables belowground, including formal underground conduit systems and relatively low-cost direct-buried facilities—with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and space efficiency. Belowground Pipeline Networks for Utility Cables describes past practices, as well as more recent techniques in which individual pipes or ducts may be advantageously deployed in conjunction with direct-buried cables. Related design, construction, and operational requirements and guidelines are provided, along with analyses of topics including: underground conduit systems; direct-buried systems; cable installation methods in ducts; hybrid belowground cable networks; and status of belowground cable networks. Providing both introductory and specific design and construction information to support the implementation of a proposed hybrid belowground cable network, this book will be valuable to new and experienced engineers involved in road and community construction, utility owners, contractors, municipalities, and project owners.

Proceedings of the International Conference, held in Boston, Massachusetts, June 8–11, 1997. Sponsored by the Pipeline Division of ASCE. This collection contains 59 papers on trenchless pipeline technologies that provide an opportunity to learn from the on-site experiences of leading experts in the field. Papers describe recent and current projects, the challenges that had to be overcome, and the solutions used. The technologies and methodologies in use today are presented, as well as those that will be emerging in the years ahead. Topics include: case histories; microtunnelling; sliplining; pipe jacking; pipe rehabilitation; service laterals; manholes; inspection/evaluation methods; grouting/joint seals; gas pipelines; materials research; new construction; and the future of trenchless technology. This proceedings will be of interest to researchers and practitioners working in all aspects of trenchless pipeline technology.
