Die geistige Wirklichkeit unserer anschaulich erinnerten Vergangenheit ist die grosste und kontinuierlich wachsende Wirklichkeit, die wir Menschen besitzen. Kern analysiert die Bedingungen, die ein Sich-Erinnern an etwas ermoglichen, und stellt Uberlegungen zur besonderen Wirklichkeit der Vergangenheit an. Erinnerung ist eine philosophische Voraussetzung fur personale Einheit und Identitat, um die es in der zweiten Studie geht, denn originales Erlebtsein macht unsere synchrone und diachrone Einheit aus. Und ein Befragen der eigenen Einheit ist nur moglich durch Reflexion auf die subjektive Geschichte des eigenen Erlebens und Handelns, der eigenen Uberzeugungen und Entschlusse. Der Charakter und die Moglichkeiten einer solchen Ruckwendung sind Gegenstand der dritten Studie.
