Deze masterproef beschrijft een onderzoek naar de rol van de lijnmanager in de implementatie van employee performance management op het parket van Brussel. Het eerste deel situeert het begrip employee performance management binnen de het groter geheel van prestatiemeting en het nieuw publiek management in de publieke sector. In elke fase van de individuele performantiecyclus komt tot uiting dat er een cruciale rol is weggelegd voor de lijnmanagers. De literatuurstudie wordt afgesloten met een bespreking van de coachende rol die de lijnmanager hierin moet innemen, gebaseerd op het situationeel leiderschapsmodel van Hersey en Blanchard en de verschillende taken die worden toegekend aan een coach door Moyson en Koopmans. Tenslotte wordt gewezen op het belang van het vijffactorenmodel van Bos-Nehles. Op basis van deze literatuurstudie werden negen hypothese geformuleerd die bijdragen tot een beschrijving van de rol van de lijnmanager binnen het parket. Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat de rol als coach geen evidente rol is voor de lijnmanager mede door het gebrek aan tijd, competenties, ondersteuning, …. Nochtans heeft de rol van de leidinggevende een sterke invloed op de perceptie en ervaring van de medewerker. Algemeen kan geconcludeerd worden dat de effectiviteit van de implementatie van het employee performance management systeem op het parket van Brussel staat of valt met het engagement van de leidinggevenden.
