Insbesondere grünlandgeprägte, extensiv genutzte Kulturlandschaften stellen "hotspots" der Biodiversität dar. Durch moderne Entwicklungen in der Landwirtschaft (Intensivierung in Gunstlagen, Nutzungsaufgabe in peripheren Räumen) sind sie europaweit hochgradig gefährdet.Als ein zukunftsweisendes und kostengünstiges Managementkonzept zum Erhalt solcher Landschaften werden seit einigen Jahren "Halboffene Weidelandschaften" diskutiert. Um deren naturschutzfachlichen und ökonomischen Chancen und Perspektiven zu dokumentieren und übertragbare Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen, wurde mit Förderung des Bundesamtes für Naturschutz das Erprobungs- und Entwicklungsvorhaben (E+E) "Halboffene Weidelandschaft Höltigbaum" durchgeführt.Mit dem vorliegenden Band werden die praktischen Erfahrungen und die Erkenntnisse aus der wissenschaftlichen Begleitung zu diesem Projekt vorgestellt. Neben den spezifischen Gesichtspunkten des Naturschutzes wird dabei auch auf die ökonomischen Aspekte eingegangen. Die Ergebnisse der Vorhabens belegen in eindrucksvoller Weise die sich ergebenden viel versprechenden Perspektiven für solche Landnutzungssysteme sowohl für den Naturschutz als auch für die nachhaltige Landnutzung. Eine umfangreiche Fotodokumentation und weitere Daten finden sich auf der beigefügten Anhangs-CD.
