Abstract

As Alberta scrambles to achieve fiscal sustainability in the face of a dying oil industry, one solution is all but ignored--a sales tax. This book maps out why and how a sales tax can and should be implemented and offers suggestions on structuring a consultative review process, improving democracy, and reducing the volatility of government revenues.

Abstract

Abstract

We live in interesting times in which life as we know it is being threatened by manmade changes to the atmosphere in which we live. On the global scale, concern is focused on climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions, and on a national scale, atmospheric pollution produced by combustion processes is of concern. A possible approach is through the development of new ideas and innovative processes to the current practices. Among the available options, multi-generation processes such as the trigeneration cycle, battery storage system, solar power plants and heat pumps have been widely studied, as they potentially allow for greater efficiency, lower costs, and reduced emissions. On the other hand, some researchers had been working to increase the potential of energy generation process through heat recovery under the steam generator, organic Rankine cycle, and absorption chillers. In this Special Issue on "Thermal Systems” of fundamental or applied and numerical or experimental investigation, many new concepts in thermal systems and energy utilization were explored and published as original research papers in this “Special Issue”.

Abstract

This book “Approaches and Methods of Science Teaching and Sustainable Development”, edited by Dr. David González Gómez and Dr. Jin Su Jeong, aims to provide a solid research corpus for addressing the challenges needed to provide adequate science and sustainable development education to scholars with different levels of education. Sustainability is starting to form a part of the curricula for many educational institutions. However, efforts must be taken to ensure proper implementation and development of sustainability-oriented topics seeking the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in higher education as well as fresh perspectives on continuing challenges.

Abstract

CFD is an emerging area and is gaining popularity due to the availability of ever-increasing computational power. If used accurately, CFD methods may overcome the limitations of experimental and other numerical methods, in some respects. This Special Issue focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulations of Marine Hydrodynamics with a specific focus on the applications of naval architecture and ocean engineering, and it comprises 24 original articles that advance state-of-the-art CFD applications in marine hydrodynamics and/or review the progress and future directions of research in this field. The published articles cover a wide range of subjects relevant to naval architecture and ocean engineering, including but not limited to; ship resistance and propulsion, seakeeping and maneuverability, hydrodynamics of marine renewable energy devices, validation and verification of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), EFD/CFD combined methods, fouling/coating hydrodynamics.
