Niki de Saint Phalle is - in the best sense - one of the most popular artists of our time. With her Nana sculptures in the mid-1960s she both anticipated the dawning feminist movement and went beyond it to arrive at her own whollist concept of art and life, which she last gave form to in her Tuscan Tarot Garden. In August 2000 Nike de Saint Phalle donated more than 300 of her works to the Sprengel Museum Hannover. Drawing on this unusually large collection which extends from her earliest assemblages through her shooting pictures, drawings and sculptures to include all the main periods in her work up until the 1980s, this volume traces in fascinating detail the artistic development of Niki de Saint Phalle.
