Le peintre Giovanni Segantini est l'auteur de paysages peints en plein air en Italie et en Suisse. En 1886, il s'installe à Savognin dans les Grisons, et déménage huit ans plus tard à Maloja, en Haute Engadine. Segantini est un artiste créateur pris à tort pour un suiveur de Jean-François Millet. C'est la raison pour laquelle on le boude à Paris. Sa confrontation avec les artistes révolutionnaires de la capitale demeure tout de même intéressante. Elle permet de montrer comment Segantini parvient à personnaliser une technique (celle du divisionnisme) et des concepts (ceux du naturalisme et du symbolisme) d'origine française, au contact de l'avant-garde italienne.

Art, Science, and Witchcraft in Early Modern Holland is the first sustained study to offer an account of the rise of scientific naturalism in Dutch art and the simultaneous interest in fantastic imagery, representations of witches in particular. Claudia Swan uses the work of artist Jacques de Gheyn II (1565-1629) to explore the reciprocity between visual representation and early modern descriptive science, and of the parallel demonological theories of the human imagination and artistic theories of creation.
