The effective and adequate pain relief is one of priorities of the healthcare professionals.The efficacy of the opiate pain relievers can be limited at the same time by the occurrence of adverse effects interfering with analgesia and patient’s quality of life but also by the development of physical and psychological dependencies with risk of abuse and overdoses. New therapeutic approaches have been developed to limit these effects and risks and to improve the analgesic treatment. What are they ? What are their mechanisms of action, their efficacy and their indications? This report gives a detailed overview of these new available therapeutic strategies in our country.
