Accompanying DVD-ROM includes documentation of Nakaya's works, from her paintings in the mid-1950s to her most recent fog sculptures, 632 photos, 75 videos (with many excerpts from the artist's video works), the artist's texts and interviews, and critical essays by other writers. Works can be accessed by title, date, location, keyword, or category.

Fujiko Nakaya's collaborations with nonhuman forces, such as water and wind, have come to define a unique practice that spans painting, drawing, video, and sculpture. One of the first woman artists to work with video, Nakaya (b. 1933) gained prominence in the 1960s as a member of the New York-based collective Experiments in Arts and Technology (E.A.T) and became internationally renowned for her fog sculptures. Driven by early ecological concerns, Nakaya's work deals with water and air-mediums that have particular resonance in the face of the climate crisis.

"In Hybrid Practices, essays by established and emerging scholars investigate the rich ecology of practices that typified the era of the Cold War. The volume showcases three projects that were at the forefront of unprecedented collaboration between the arts and new sectors of industrial society in the 1960s and 70s --Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), the Art and Technology Project at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (A&T), and the Artist Placement Group (APG) in the U.K. The subjects covered range from collaborative projects between artists and scientists to commercial ventures and experiments in intermedia, onto to multi-disciplinary undertakings, effacing authorship to activate the spectator, suturing gaps between art and government, or remapping the landscape of everyday life in terms of technological mediation. Among the artists discussed in the volume and of interest to a broad public beyond the art world include John Cage, Hans Haacke, Robert Irwin, John Latham, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Sol LeWitt, Carolee Schneemann, James Turrell, Yvonne Rainer, Robert Rauschenberg, and Robert Whitman. This valuable collection aims to introduce readers not only to hybrid work in and as depth, but also to work in and as breadth, across disciplinary practices where the real questions of hybridity are determined."--Provided by publisher.

"Video is everywhere. Since its debut as a consumer medium in the 1960s, video has shaped our opinions, our politics and our societies. On our phones and computer screens, walls and streets, it defines new spaces and experiences--spreading memes, lies, fervor, fact and fiction. In other words, video has transformed the world. Featuring works from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, this illuminating exhibition catalog--MoMA's first major publication on video art in nearly 30 years--explores the ways in which artists have both championed and questioned video's promise, some hoping to create new networks of communication, democratic engagement and public participation, others protesting commercial and state control over information, vision and truth itself. Lavishly illustrated essays by esteemed scholars and artists--including Ina Blom, Aria Dean, David Joselit, Pamela M. Lee, Glenn Ligon and Ravi Sundaram--highlight video's widely varied formats, contexts and global reach. Signals is a manual for understanding the present, an era in which video has pervaded all aspects of life"--
