Si les analogies entre le corps humain et le clavecin sillonnent le discours des Lumières, Denis Diderot en fait l'objet d'une préoccupation permanente. Sous la plume du directeur de l'Encyclopédie, "l'homme-clavecin" met en scène une forme d'intersubjectivité entre locuteurs ou encore cherche à donner une explication proprement matérialiste de l'âme.
