La haine possède une histoire : ses expressions, ses modalités, ses logiques, ses objets et ses effets ne sont ni identiques ni immuables. Cet essai replace cette passion funeste dans son époque et cerne ses raisons évoquées par les contemporains. Si la haine est à sa manière une forme de rationalité permettant de se mouvoir dans l'univers social, elle est une « figure du pensable » et un ressort psychologique déterminant, donnant la possibilité de comprendre ce qui anime les individus et les sociétés.

The aim of this publication is to discuss the revolutions phenomenon and its multi-faceted development on a large geographic scale and a long-term perspective. The 25 essays included concern studies from territorial legislation and administration studies to political debates; from conspiracy strategies to economic, cultural, social, religious, communicational and artistic matters. Such papers are to be considered an effort to synthetize the most recent historiographic perspectives, result of wide and inclusive academic discussions about the great turmoil of 1789-1849. The purpose is to provide new contributions to the current international debate on the revolutionary and counterrevolutionary movements of that period. Il volume si propone di tematizzare il fenomeno rivoluzionario su una vasta scala geografica, in una prospettiva di lunga durata e nella sua pluralità di sviluppi. Il ventaglio degli oggetti di studio dei venticinque saggi raccolti va dalla legislazione e amministrazione territoriale alle discussioni politiche, dalle strategie cospirative alle questioni di carattere economico, culturale, sociale, religioso, comunicativo e artistico. Frutto di un confronto ampio e inclusivo intorno al grande subbuglio degli anni 1789-1849, la miscellanea ha costituito per le autrici e per gli autori un’occasione per fare il punto sui più recenti indirizzi storiografici, nel tentativo di offrire un ulteriore contributo al vivace dibattito internazionale sulle rivoluzioni e le contro-rivoluzioni di quel movimentato periodo

“Long live the Reds, down with the Whites! Long live Ledru-Rollin! Bonaparte to the guillotine! Down with the Chouans!”. These cries made in October 1850 by grape pickers from the Dole area are one of the many traces that Pierre Merlin collected in archives that have been little-studied until now to write the living history of the democratic learning in Jura between 1848 and the end of the 19th century. From the intense political struggles around 1848 to the establishment of the Republic and beyond, the book describes the formation of a democratic opinion that is illuminated by trajectories of emblematic republicans and socialists such as Louis-Étienne Jousserandot and Jean-Paul Mazaroz.

The creation of the Illyrian Provinces is considered to be one of the most important events in Slovenian history, not only by demonstrating that the Habsburg rule was not eternal and untouchable, but also by bringing about global changes in ideational, economic and social areas. The Illyrian Provinces were an important ideational and political factor in the Slovenian social and political development. Given the altered political situation in Europe and especially in view of the establishment of the independent Slovenian state, the renewed discussion on the Illyrian Provinces bears multiple new implications. On the one hand, it spreads knowledge about international developments on Slovenian soil, while on the other, scientifically more pertinent, it presents not only an analysis of hitherto research but also brings into Slovenian historiography new findings based on new materials and new methodological approaches. Nastanek Ilirskih provinc velja za enega pomembnih dogodkov v slovenski zgodovini, ki ni samo dokazal, da je oblast Habsburžanov večna in nedotakljiva, ampak je prinesel tudi globalne spremembe na idejnem, gospodarskem in socialnem področju. Ilirske province so bile pomembno idejno in politično gibalo slovenskega družbenopolitičnega razvoja. Glede na spremenjene politične razmere v Evropi, zlasti pa spričo nastanka samostojne slovenske države, ima prenovljena obravnava Ilirskih provinc številne nove implikacije. Na eni strani širi vedenje o mednarodnih dogodkih na slovenskih tleh, na drugi in strokovno pomembnejši pa predstavlja analizo dosedanjih raziskav in vnos novih spoznanj, temelječih na novem gradivu in novih metodoloških pristopih, v slovenski zgodovinopisni prostor.
