Abstract

This brief examines resource allocation and interference management for 4G femtocells. It introduces 4G femtocells in the context of 4G mobile networks and discusses related technical challenges in resource allocation and interference management. Topics include ant colony algorithm based downlink resource allocation, intelligent scheduling and power control, uplink and downlink for two-tier networks, quality of service (QoS) constraints and the cross-tier interference constraint. The authors present algorithms to alleviate common femtocell-related problems such as subchannel power allocation. The complexity of the proposed resource allocation algorithms is analyzed, and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is verified by simulations. This concise and practical book directly addresses common problems relating to femtocells and resource management. It serves as a useful tool for researchers in the field. Advanced-level students or professionals interested in femtocells and networks will also find the content helpful.

Abstract

Advances for In-Vehicle and Mobile Systems: Challenges for International Standards is organized to bring together the most active scholars working on the latest techniques, standards, and emerging deployment on "living in the age of wireless communications and smart vehicular systems." The objective is to incorporate speech, dialog, video, image, vehicular sensory data, and wireless communication modalities to model the total behavior of the driver and use that model towards personalization of the vehicle to provide a more comfortable and safer driving experience. The format of this work centers on four themes: driver and driving environment recognition, telecommunication applications, noise reduction, and dialog in vehicles. Advances for In-Vehicle and Mobile Systems: Challenges for International Standards is appropriate for researchers, engineers, and professionals working in signal processing technologies, next generation vehicle design, and networks for mobile platforms.

Abstract

Mobility is perhaps the most important market and technological trend within information and communication technology. With the advent of new mobile infrastructures providing high bandwidth and constant connection to the network from virtually everywhere, the way people use information resources for work and leisure is being radically transformed. The rapid developments in information technology, particularly communication and collaboration technologies, are substantially changing the landscape of organizational computing. Workers in any business area are becoming increasingly mobile. Workers in more and more areas will be required to act flexibly within the constraints of the business processes of the company (or companies) they are currently working for. At the same time they will often want to use the same information technology to support their private tasks. Over the last years, a new breed of information systems has appeared to address this emerging situation, referred to as mobile information systems. Specific applications are also being characterized as, among others, m-Commerce, m-Learning, and m-Business. This book contains the proceedings of the second IFIP TC8 Working Conference on Mobile Information Systems which was held in December 2005 in Leeds, UK and sponsored by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP). Mobile Information Systems II aims to: · Clarify differences and similarities between the development of mobile and more traditional information systems. · Investigate the organizational impact of mobile information systems. · Investigate the 'e to m shift' , for example in m-Commerce relative to e-Commerce. · Investigate mobile commerce applications combined with the advantages of mobile communications technologies, the drivers of which have been identified as ubiquity, accessibility, security, convenience, localization, instant connectivity, and personalization. · Evaluate existing and newly developed approaches for the analysis, design, implementation, and evolution of mobile information systems. · Investigate technical issues and the constraints they impose on mobile information systems functionalities and design.

Abstract

WWIC 2007 was organized by the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and it was the fifth event of a series of International Conferences on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications, addressing research topics such as the design and evaluation of protocols, the dynamics of the integration, the performance trade-offs, the need for new performance metrics, and cross-layer interactions. Previous events were held in Berne (Switzerland) in 2006, Xanthi (Greece) in 2005, Frankfurt (Germany) in 2004, and Las Vegas (USA) in 2002. As in 2005 and 2006, WWIC was selected as the official conference by COST Action 290 (Wi-QoST–Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks). WWIC 2007 brought together active and proficient members of the networking community, from both academia and industry, thus contributing to scientific, strategic, and practical advances in the broad and fast-evolving field of wired/wireless Internet communications. The WWIC 2007 call for papers attracted 257 submissions from 36 different countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. These were subject to thorough review work by the Program Committee members and additional reviewers. The selection process was finalized in a Technical Program Committee meeting held in Malaga, Spain, on February 15, 2007.
