Artiste, essayiste, romancière, Kate Millett (1934-2017) est une figure majeure ― et souvent oubliée ― de la deuxième vague du féminisme états-unien, aux côtés de Betty Friedan, Shulamith Firestone, Angela Davis ou Gloria Steinern. Tout en construisant une oeuvre plastique et littéraire, elle lutte avec les femmes et les minorités sexuelles, se bat contre le racisme, la guerre, la violence personnelle autant qu'instituée, l'homophobie et l'enfermement qu'elle a connus elle-même. En 1970, Sexual Politics, ouvrage pionnier en matière de théorie féministe, la rend célèbre. Elle utilise ses droits d'autrice pour réaliser un film et acheter une ferme à Poughkeepsie (Etat de New York) où elle créera plus tard une communauté utopique de femmes artistes. Voici enfin la première biographie de cette amie de Simone de Beauvoir, rédigée à la manière d'un roman par Marie-Hélène Dumas (Sylvia Pankhurst, féministe, anticolonialiste, révolutionnaire, Libertalia, 2019).
