Abstract

This is the first book that provides a comprehensive review of the entire area of artificial cells. The author, a pioneer of the field, invented the first artificial cells some 50 years ago and has continued to carry out active research in this field. Since then, there have been explosive research activities around the world on artificial cells, especially in fields related to biotechnology, nanomedicine, cell therapy, blood substitutes, drug delivery and others. However, instead of the term "artificial cells," many authors use other terminologies such as blood substitutes, bioencapsulation, l

Abstract

Coatings are traditionally used to protect materials from corrosion and erosion and improve the equipment’s performance. At present, there are coatings that provide materials with new properties, for example, biocidal, hydrophobic and self-cleaning properties. A promising area of materials science is the development of "smart" coatings that simultaneously give materials several new properties. The coating propertiess are determined by the coatings’ material, the structure and the properties of the substrate surface, and the methods of forming the coatings. This book contains the results of the latest research on the formation of coatings that impart complexes of new properties to various materials.

Abstract

An interdisciplinary book that brings together, at an international level, a high-quality collection of reviews and original research articles dealing with the importance of natural or synthetic polymers in encapsulation processes and their applications. A deep understanding and relevant theoretical calculations for exploring the functions of the materials (involved in the formulations) have also been presented along with fundamental investigations. This book has explored the latest research on the function of polymers in encapsulation technology including fundamental theory and experiments together with reviews and articles. Moreover, the present book offers easy-to-achieve approaches that have been developed so far and could create a platform for industrial material production.
