The centerpiece of this publication is a manuscript (SI P/5) collected by Nikolai Fedorovich Petrovsky, who served as Russian consul general in Kashgar from 1892 to 1903. The manuscript, known as the Kashagr manuscript, or the Petrovsky manuscript, is estimated to date back to the 9th and 10th centuries, and is the largest palm-leaf manuscript of its kind. With a colophon that includes a dedication of some 20 individuals who commissioned its undertaking, the manuscript is an extremely valuable resource that provides signifiant insight into faith in the Lotus Sutra at the time the manuscript was copied.
