This dissertation by Firas Aljabery explores the detection and biological mechanisms of lymph node metastasis in invasive urinary bladder cancer. Conducted at Linköping University, the study involves 122 patients treated with radical cystectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection. The research evaluates the efficacy of preoperative PET/CT and peroperative sentinel node biopsy for detecting lymph node metastasis. It further investigates macrophage infiltration in tumor stroma and the expression of tumor suppression proteins as potential prognostic indicators. The study concludes that PET/CT offers no significant advantage over conventional CT, and highlights the prognostic significance of lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis density. This work is aimed at medical professionals and researchers in oncology and urology.
