Adaptation par un poète et musicien syrien de cette épopée antique contant l'histoire de Gilgamesh, roi mi-homme mi-dieu, bâtisseur légendaire des remparts d'Ourouk vers 2800 ou 2600 avant J.-C. Ce texte sumérien, traduit en babylonien, assyrien, hittite et hourite, a fait partie des grandes bibliothèques dont celle d'Assurbanipal et a été redécouvert lors de fouilles au XIXe siècle.
