Hebrews seems like unpromising material for feminist interpretation, although it is the only New Testament writing for which female authorship has been seriously posited. Mary Ann Beavis and HyeRan Kim-Cragg highlight the similarities between Hebrews and the book of Wisdom/Sophia, which share cosmological, ethical, historical, and sapiential themes, revealing that Hebrews is in fact a submerged tradition of Sophia-Wisdom. They also tackle the sacrificial Christology of Hebrews, concluding that in its ancient context, far from symbolizing suffering and abjection, sacrifice was understood as celebratory and relational. Contributions from Filipina (Maricel and Marilou Ibita), Jewish (Justin Jaron Lewis), historical (Nancy Calvert-Koyzis), and First Nations (Marie Annharte Baker) perspectives bring additional scholarly, cultural, religious, and experiential wisdom to the commentary.

For the first time, the present commentary brings together all relevant aspects necessary to understand and appreciate this late portion of Old Testament Scripture: textual criticism; detailed philological and literary analysis; the two-fold historical context of the text's Hellenistic environment, on the one hand, and biblical tradition on the other; and ultimately the very innovative theology of the book of Wisdom. Aspects of the book's reception history as well as hermeneutical questions round off the commentary on the text.

Il Siracide si caratterizza per l'elevata frequenza della coppia lessicale poverta-ricchezza. Questo binomio si concentra all'interno di pochi brani la cui analisi delinea un contesto segnato da diverse tensioni: conflitti non solo sociali, ma anche politici, religiosi e culturali. Lo sguardo di Ben Sira sulle contraddizioni della sua societa e, da un lato, realista e critico, dall'altro ottimista e fiducioso: egli denuncia l'ingiustizia e rifiuta le soluzioni violente; il superamento delle tensioni richiede piuttosto un'azione educativa nei confronti delle nuove generazioni. I valori raccomandati (prudenza, umilta, solidarieta generosa, salda fiducia in Dio) sono quelli tradizionali della Torah e sono fatti ruotare attorno a due cardini fondamentali: la sapienza e il timore del Signore. Questa profonda fedelta alla tradizione biblica consente a Ben Sira di assimilare alcuni elementi ellenistici senza tradire la fede di Israele nel Dio misericordioso e giusto, schierato in difesa di deboli e oppressi.
