Deze publicatie is een vriendenboek dat wordt aangeboden aan Klaas A.D. Smelik naar aanleiding van zijn emeritaat. Hij was tot 2015 als professor verbonden aan de Vakgroep Talen en Culturen van het Nabije Oosten en Noord-Afrika van de Universiteit Gent. Zijn werkterrein – de Hebreeuwse Bijbel, het Jodendom en de nalatenschap van Etty Hillesum – was wijdvertakt en heeft velen geïnspireerd. Dat blijkt uit de essays in dit boek, die verspreid zijn over drie delen: Hebreeuwse Bijbel, Etty Hillesum en Varia. Ze zijn een uiting van waardering, een royaal boeket bloemen, een beeld ontleend aan ‘Ik zal je alle bloemen brengen’, het essay van Ria van den Brandt. Het lukte Smelik in 1986 de geannoteerde uitgave van alle dagboekcahiers en brieven van Etty Hillesum voor elkaar te krijgen. ‘Wat zou Etty Hillesum van dit alles hebben gevonden?’, vraagt Van den Brandt zich af. Misschien zou zij uit dankbaarheid een enorme bos bloemen voor Klaas Smelik hebben gekocht. Dat mocht niet zo zijn. De essays van Geen moment verloren trekken de aandacht om hun taalvaardigheid, wetenschappelijkheid en wereldwijsheid. Zij zullen de lezers bekoren als een anemoon, hyacint, lupine, roos, tulp,… Marja Clement promoveerde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam op een taalkundige analyse van het proza van Josepha Mendels. Zij was tien jaar docent neerlandistiek aan de Universität Zürich. Momenteel is zij werkzaam als docent neerlandistiek bij het Instituut voor Nederlands Taalonderwijs en Taaladvies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Meins G.S. Coetsier studeerde filosofie aan The Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy (De Nationale Universiteit van Ierland) en promoveerde aan de Universiteit van Gent zowel in de Wijsbegeerte als in de Vergelijkende Cultuurwetenschap. Na postdoconderzoek aan de Universiteit van Zürich werkt hij momenteel als diaken en gevangenispastor voor het Bisdom Fulda en als deeltijds onderzoeker aan Trinity College Dublin. Jurjen Wiersma studeerde theologie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en promoveerde er op een bio-sociale benadering van misdaad en straf. Hij doceerde aan de School voor Journalistiek in Utrecht, de Theologische Faculteit van de UvA (vacature dr. G.H. ter Schegget) en de Universitaire Faculteit voor Protestantse Godgeleerdheid in Brussel. De ethiek van Dietrich Bonhoeffer en ‘Europa’ hebben zijn bijzondere belangstelling.

Over the course of his career, Dale Allison has enriched our understanding of Jewish and Christian hopes about the end of history, advanced nuanced readings of ancient texts in light of their scriptural and cultural conversation partners, and deepened our knowledge of the history of biblical interpretation throughout the ages. In all of these ways, he has sought, in the words of T.S. All'immagine del teatro ci siamo ispirati nell'intessere i 33 contributi di questo Volume in onore del prof. don Massimo Grilli, cercando di portare su un ideale palcoscenico alcuni "personaggi" biblici che fossero annunciatori di una prospettiva altra, la prospettiva di Dio, che affida ai "secondi", in un mondo di "primi", il compito di trasmettere la verità del suo Volto. Quello dei NumeriSecondi diviene così il teatro che apre i sui spazi e dischiude il suo sipario per dare accoglienza e ascolto alla Parola che entra in dialogo con gli uomini mediante la loro stessa voce, e grida ancora una volta la beatitudine-cardine: «Beati i numerisecondi». Dopo l'accoglienza ne Le Foyer dell'Opéra, la pièce si articola in una Ouverture, Il testo e l'orizzonte pragmatico, e due Atti, «NumeriSecondi» nella Bibbia ebraica, e Il Dio dei «piccoli» nel Nuovo Testamento. Dietro le Quinte conclude lo "spettacolo" con alcune testimonianze sulla vita e l'attività di don Massimo.
