The first international monograph on this highly successful and innovative lighting design office Filling architecture with light, setting buildings in scene, generating spatial atmosphere: with undogmatic and flexible solutions the lighting design office Licht Kunst Licht in Berlin, founded by Andreas Schulz in 1992, develops lighting scenographies for museums, administrative and public buildings and private residences. This monograph presents recent major projects like the Bundeskanzleramt or the Mariott-Hotel in Berlin. Despite the large variety of design tasks the interdisciplinary team of lighting designers, architects, designers and electrical engineers remain consistent in their concept and approach: the complex interaction of lighting effects, rather than the formal celebration of a luminaire object, is at the center of all planning considerations

The book introduces a canon of media architectural terminology and shows the history of media facades through early examples of embedding media in architecture, like Times Square and Centre Pompidou. State-of-the-art developments are presented with approx. 30 international projects of contemporary media architecture separated and classified in seven different technical categories: projection facades, rear projection facades, window raster animation, display facades, illuminated facades, mechanical facades and voxel facades. Each of these categories is introduced by explaining the technology and presenting built examples. The book is rounded off by an analysis of the representational characteristics of media facades and an introduction of possible forms of content.

In this book, the author embodies her many years of experience as a practitioner and teacher of lighting design. She articulates basic planning rules for the outdoor lighting of buildings, traffic routes, and squares, and presents and elucidates new artificial lighting systems and outdoor lamps with the help of examples. The face of the nocturnal metropolis is marked decisively by light, and the number and variety of the light sources is increasing to the point of "light terror." A well-lit urban space can be very inviting, giving residents and visitors a sense of well-being and security. A successful lighting design can also give the city at night an identity of its own and accentuate architectural qualities. In this book, the author embodies her many years of experience as a practitioner and teacher of lighting design. In preparation, she visited ten European cities - including Paris, Brussels, Berlin, London, Budapest, Vienna, and Amsterdam - with different urban situations. This has enabled her to present different planning and design tasks systematically and to illustrate specific solutions. In addition to articulating basic planning rules for the outdoor lighting of buildings, traffic routes, and squares, she presents and elucidates new artificial lighting systems and outdoor lamps with the help of examples.

Daylight is the most important element determining the mood and appearance of architecture, more so than all construction materials. In office buildings in particular, the good provision of daylight and matching artificial lighting installations make an important contribution to energy conservation – the better the use made of daylight, the less energy has to be consumed for artificial lighting. For this reason, typical architectural concepts have changed in recent years; enclosed buildings with full air-conditioning have increasingly made way to buildings that respond to the climate conditions of their environment, thereby using only a much reduced amount of energy without compromising on comfort. The BASICS Lighting Design volume includes the most important principles of daylight and artificial lighting design. Selection of subjects covered: Sizes and units Building concept design principles (layout design, building orientation and facade structure) Lighting design concepts Current daylighting and artificial lighting systems Solar screening Directing daylight Mehr als jedes andere Baumaterial bestimmt das Tageslicht Raumwirkungen, erzeugt Stimmungen, inszeniert Architektur.

In this planning guide, the renowned lighting designer Ulrike Brandi documents all her findings on the topics of lighting design, daylight, sustainability and healthy living spaces. It is a challenge to create holistic lighting design in times of advancing mechanization, but it is the right thing to do in terms of achieving sustainability in the use of light and energy. The renowned lighting designer Ulrike Brandi explains this attitude with the words, "It's better to make the most of natural light from the start, rather than compensating with artificial light afterwards".The guideline Light Nature Architecture proves how essential, but also simple, it is to integrate natural light into architectural planning and thus into the design of healthy and pleasant living and working environments. This richly illustrated handbook is structured based on natural light phenomena and combines Ulrike Brandi's wealth of experience, theoretical principles, and design methods to create a reference work and source of inspiration.

Lighting is a key feature of almost all interiors but it is often treated in a rather superficial manner in most books. It is, however, a complex, fast-moving field where the technology is always changing. For large schemes, a professional lighting designer is usually employed, but for smaller projects it will often fall to the architect or interior designer to specify the lighting. In either case, it is crucial that the architect or interior designer understands what lighting is available, how it can be used and controlled and how it can be fitted. This book features 40 recent international projects. Each project features detailed plans, diagrams, sketches and CAD visuals to demonstrate the lighting techniques involved. This is accompanied by an explanatory text (how the lighting fulfilled the brief, how the lighting concept was arrived at, why particular light fittings/lamps were specified and so on). A bonus CD includes technical drawings from the book.
