Technische Bauwerke, Hafen- und Industrieanlagen, das Paris der 1920er-Jahre: Germaine Krull zählt zu den Entdeckerinnen der Moderne. Ihre fotografischen Stadtansichten Europas, aber auch ihr Engagement als Kriegsberichterstatterin in Indochina und ihre Bildreportagen lassen sich in ihrer Bedeutung kaum überschätzen. Jean Cocteau und Walter Benjamin zählten zu den ersten Bewunderern ihrer Fotografien, ihrem realistisch unverstellten Blick auf die zeitgenössische Gegenwart. Die Bekanntheit und prägende Macht ihrer Werke misst sich an anderen Künstlergrößen wie Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy oder André Kertész. Lange Zeit waren Krulls Werke in einzelnen Archiven verstreut und dem Publikum kaum zugänglich. Der Katalog schließt diese Lücke und präsentiert die Bilder einer außergewöhnlichen Fotografin. Mit über 150 Vintage-Drucken wird ihr Blick auf die Welt wieder sicht- und bestaunbar.

Un destin de photographe" présentée au Jeu de Paume, Paris, du 2 juin au 27 septembre 2015.00Le destin photographique de Germaine Krull (1897-1985) est typique de la génération qui, dans les années 1920, participe aux profonds bouleversements de la pratique photographique, qu’elle enrichit de son tempérament très individuel et original. Après un engagement politique marqué par la révolution spartakiste à Munich et à Berlin, et après une première production de studio avec des nus féminins, caractérisée par une rare ambivalence érotique, son renom est surtout attaché à la publication en 1928 de son portfolio Métal, qui représente une étape importante de la Nouvelle Vision en France (grues, ponts, détails d’architectures métalliques, le tout en contre-plongée).
