Bisher ist das Œuvre Thomas Klings (1957-2005) von der Germanistik eher stiefkindlich behandelt worden. Nun wird es erstmals in einem wissenschaftlichen Sammelband sondiert: Neben überblicksartigen Beiträgen zum literarhistorischen Ort der klingschen Lyrik und zum Essayisten Kling werden dabei zum einen die ›Herkünfte‹ dieses Autors in den Blick ge­­nom­men, zum anderen geht es um seine Praxis der produktiven Rezep­tion: von den »Bergungsarbeiten« in Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit bis hin zur Auseinandersetzung mit Paul Celan. Darüber hinaus werden die inter­­medialen Grundlagen eines Werks untersucht, das sich programmatisch im Spannungsfeld von Oralität, Skripturalität und Visualität bewegt. Ein Bericht über die Nachlass-Erschließung sowie ein Gespräch zwischen Franz Josef Czernin, Heinrich Detering und Hubert Winkels beschließen den Band, der gleichermaßen zur Formierung einer Kling-Forschung bei­­­­­­­­­­­­­tragen wie zur weiteren Beschäftigung mit einem der eigenständigs­ten und einflussreichsten Werke der Jahrtausendwende anregen will.

What does landscape mean today? Still the Ưromantic ideal of a diversified natural, agricultural and settlement area? Modern landscapes today are often 'non-places'. They bear traces of ecoƯnomic interventions, changing demarcations, are marked by displacement and war as well as by urban sprawl and mining. Quite often, only a kind of residual nature remains, where a few ruins tell of historical events. Barren landscapes that speak of past violence are degraded to (illustrative) Ưmaterial. At the same time, (war) memories are Ưvisibly embodied in architectural monuments from the 20th century. In this exhibition and in numerƯous contributions to the extensive book, 24 artists and artist groups bring the theme of landscape to life. Landscapes between fiction, symbolism and documentation are presented, and they appeal to our ability to read and decipher these images? and, quite naturally, call upon our imagination and our ability to feel empathy.
