The book on San Pedro, the old church of Colegio Maximo San Pablo, the center and stronghold of the Jesuits in Peru since their arrival in 1568, is a tribute to the 450 years of Jesuit presence in Peru. Apart from the neoclassical reforms undertaken by the speakers shortly before independence, the Baroque altarpieces of St. Peter's Church are preserved in their original form for the most part and remind us of their decisive influence in defining the fundamental features of this genre in the country. Although they were usually in charge of local assemblers, their ornamentation was enriched by the import of images and paintings by notable European painters and sculptors at the time, such as Bartolome Roman, Gregorio Fernandez and Juan Mesa. Added to these are abundant anonyms pieces from Madrid, Milan, Naples and even the Far East that would serve as a constant inspiration to the artists of the city (Lima). This was the case of the limeno Cristobal Lozano. (HKB Translation) Page xv.
