Dit gesprek kan beschouwd worden als het politieke testament van Jacques Derrida: de in Algerije geboren filosoof discussieert hier met Mustapha Chérif, een Algerijns politicus en intellectueel, over de problematische verhouding tussen de islam en het Westen.
