Abstract

This book presents statistical physics methods based on self-consistent field theory for describing the thermodynamic properties of ion-molecular systems, including electrolyte solutions, ionic liquids, polymeric ionic liquids, and metal-organic complexes. The methods are applicable in both the bulk and at interfaces, taking into account the molecular structure of these systems. The book also provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of art on statistical field theory for ion-molecular systems. It is primarily intended for researchers and graduate students in physical chemistry and condensed matter physics, as well as for physical chemists, physicists, and engineers interested in molecular system theory and simulation. By presenting these approaches, the book aims to enable readers to solve various problems in physical chemistry and electrochemistry using the methods described. The authors attempted to focus on specific issues and provide the necessary theoretical background. The book includes a mathematical introduction that readers can consult if they need clarification on any mathematical concepts or details omitted in the main text. In order to read the book, it is recommended that readers have a basic understanding of calculus, linear algebra, and probability theory, which can be acquired through standard university courses.

Abstract

Ionic Liquid-based Technologies for Environmental Sustainability explores the range of sustainable and green applications of IL materials achieved in recent years, such as gas solubility, biomass pre-treatment, bio-catalysis, energy storage, gas separation and purification technologies. The book also provides a reference material for future research in IL-based technologies for environmental and energy applications, which are much in-demand due to sustainable, reusable and eco-friendly methods for highly innovative and applied materials. Written by eminent scholars and leading experts from around the world, the book aims to cover the synthesis and characterization of broad range of ionic liquids and their sustainable applications. Chapters provide cutting-edge research with state-of-the-art developments, including the use of IL-based materials for the removal of pharmaceuticals, dyes and value-added metals.

Abstract

"Offers a pragmatic overview and instruction in biocatalysis and enzymology of green solvents for sustainable industries and medicine, running from concept to application. Here, international experts in the field discuss structure-function relationships of enzymes in ionic liquids (ILs) and examine how enzymes act as selective catalysts for fine biochemical synthesis in non-aqueous environments. Several integral green biochemical processes of biocatalytic transformation and pure product separation are described in detail" --

Abstract

Dear Colleagues, In recent years, functional coating technology has attracted increased attention due to its effective potential for improved engineered materials. Growing demand for new materials with synergistic properties pushed research toward a new field to obtain innovative and smart coatings with functional capabilities that greatly differ from the conventional ones. In such a context, the expression of “functional coatings” has acquired specific relevance. This Special Issue will assess cutting-edge developments in this research area for the improvement and growth of actual performance, industrial scale-up, and marketability of functional coatings. This Special Issue is useful for researchers who are approaching this application context to improve their knowledge, with the aim of providing valuable scientific support for new research paths concerning functional surface engineering design and tailoring.
