The 17th ISAM was organised by Pakistan Advanced Materials Forum (PAMF) and held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on October 18-22, 2021. Held biennially, the symposium aims to provide a versatile and reputed international forum for researchers, engineers and scientists to present their advanced research and new findings in advanced materials science and technology. This book comprises the results of scientific investigation and engineering analysis of materials' properties and possible conditions for their applications. It includes articles on analysis of corrosion behaviour and corrosion protection of structural metals, fatigue and damage processes materials, investigation of microstructure and features of semiconductor and nanosized materials and structures for photovoltaic and optoelectronic. Functional ceramics and composites are also researched, and the results of studying the properties of materials for biomedical and environmental engineering are presented. This book will be useful not only to engineers but for academic researchers and students also.

This volume in memory of Professor Martin Brasier, which has many of his unfinished works, summarizes recent progress in some of the hottest topics in palaeobiology including cellular preservation of early microbial life and early evolution of macroscopic animal life, encompassing the Ediacara biota. The papers focus on how to decipher evidence for early life, which requires exceptional preservation, employment of state-of-the-art techniques and also an understanding gleaned from Phanerozoic lagerstätte and modern analogues. The papers also apply Martin's MOFAOTYOF principle (my oldest fossils are older than your oldest fossils), requiring an integrated approach to understanding fossils. The adoption of the null-hypothesis that all putative traces of life are abiotic until proven otherwise, and the consideration of putative fossils within their spatial context, characterized the work of Martin Brasier, as is well demonstrated by the papers in this volume.--

"What, fundamentally, is public management? This question is rarely answered clearly and confidently, whether by students of public management or academics in the field. This book answers this question, as its readers come to know why and how public management is a design-oriented professional discipline. The argument of the book is grounded in Herbert Simon's ideas about design-oriented professional disciplines. However, Michael Barzelay's argument runs counter to the idea that public management is a design science. It envisions the discipline as a professional practice that requires the thoughtful and skilful use of purposive theories of public organizations, along with reverse-engineered design-precedents, in problem-solving for public programs and organizations. How professional knowledge about public management is to be expanded through research and analytical synthesis is therefore a major thrust of the book's overall argument. Michael Barzelay develops these arguments in a unique way, including guiding the reader through a fictional "Public Management Gallery" featuring key contributions to purposive theorizing about public management as a professional practice. The book is an essential resource for those wishing to strengthen the professional practice of public management - and the discipline - through education and research immediately and for years to come"--
