Abstract

This toolkit, developed by the World Health Organization and the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, provides a comprehensive guide for evaluating and scaling up digital innovations in tuberculosis care. Aimed primarily at TB program implementers and decision-makers, the toolkit offers six modules covering key steps in the implementation research (IR) process, including budgeting, preparing for studies, and evaluating digital technologies' effectiveness. It addresses challenges in prevention, detection, treatment, and management of TB using digital tools, while also highlighting the limited evidence supporting their application. The toolkit is designed to assist in creating IR proposals to support fundraising for future research efforts.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This paper analyzes four years of qualitative data observing a large participatory anti-poverty project in India as it scales up from its first phase (covering 400,000 households) to its second (covering 800,000 households). Focusing on the frontlines of change-at the village level, the analysis finds that the key difference between implementation in the two phases of the project was that facilitators in the first phase deployed a discourse that was carefully "co-produced" with its beneficiaries. Through careful groundwork and creative improvisation, facilitators incorporated the interests of multiple stakeholders on the ground while bringing beneficiaries into the project. However, as the project scaled up, participants were mobilized quickly with a homogenous and fixed script that lacked the kind of improvisation that characterized the first phase, and which failed to include diverse stakeholder interests, objectives, and voices. These differences significantly reduced the intensity of participation and its concomitant social impacts. The study finds that the work of facilitators was embedded in a larger shift in organizational priorities within the project, which in turn was responding to a shift in the political climate.

Abstract

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination was adopted thirty-five years ago, on 21 December 1965, by the General Assembly of the United Nations, and entered into force on 4 January 1969. It was the first of the universal human rights treaties with a treaty-monitoring body to be adopted and enter into force. At present, 156 States have ratified or acceded to this Convention. Under article 9 of the Convention, each State party has to submit a report within one year after the entry into force of the Convention for that State and thereafter every two years and whenever so requested. The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has been formed to monitor the implementation of the Convention. At its fortieth session, in 1991, the Committee initiated the practice of adopting concluding observations by the Committee as a whole on each report it considered, and at its forty-third session, in 1993, the Committee started to use a standard format for the presentation of its concluding observations. The Committee makes a general evaluation of the report and of the dialogue with the delegation, and it makes note of positive developments that may have occurred during the period under review, of factors and difficulties impeding the implementation of the Convention, and of principal subjects of concern. It also makes suggestions and recommendations to the State party concerned. The present volume contains concluding observations adopted by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination at its forty-third to fifty-seventh sessions (1993-2000). Foreword by Mrs. Mary Robinson, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
