Abstract

This book discusses the immune system, and the avoidance of unhealthy habits and use of early detection as ways to delay the onset of serious diseases, and avoid the expense, time, effort, and side effects of standard treatments. Also introduces new therapeutic strategies in the development of targeted drugs and programmed cell death.

Abstract

This volume examines immunohistochemical methods for investigating the toxicologic pathology of rodent and other animal tissues. Eleven comprehensive chapters provide pathologists and researchers in various sub-disciplines of toxicology with an authoritative review of the methods of immunohistochemical staining in various target tissues. Further, this book explores the tissue-, antigen-, and antibody-specific problems that may be encountered during the staining procedures and provides potential avenues for resolving various methodological issues. Special attention is paid to the latest enhancement procedures for antigen retrieval and visualization as well as to image analysis and antigen quantification. Written by leading researchers in toxicology and pathology, this book is a significant resource for toxicologists and pathologists working with rodents and other animal models. The information in Technical Aspects of Toxicological Immunohistochemistry is rounded out by the companion book, Toxicological Immunohistochemistry which examines mechanistic and predictive biomarkers for toxicological evaluation. .

Abstract

This volume examines our current understanding of the biological effects of fibrous and particulate substances, including discussions on nanoparticles. It offers comprehensive information on the latest insights into the immunological effects of various irritants on the human body. Readers will benefit from the contributing authors’ diverse perspectives and extensive discussions of key issues, which include molecular alterations of the immune system and autoimmune diseases in connection with asbestos and silica, among others. The chapters also discuss recommendations, practical methods, and nanosafety science in situations involving exposure to nanotoxic substances.     Edited in collaboration with the Japanese Society for Hygiene, this book provides up-to-date information on the immunological effects of nanotoxic substances to researchers interested in environmental and occupational health. Presenting a number of recent concepts and findings in the field, it enables readers to gain a comprehensive knowledge of health problems caused by environmental fibrous and particulate substances.

Abstract

This single volume represents an additional text for students who require background information on the immune response, its diagnosis and its modification by drugs and chemicals. The first section of the book, providing a basic introduction to immunology and its relevance for human disease, has been updated to accommodate new immunological concepts. The second section on immunodiagnostics has been further expanded to describe widely used molecular techniques and is followed by a systematic coverage of drugs affecting the immune system, revised to cover recent developments. The book concludes with a chapter on immunotoxicology. This second edition, thus, continues the unique format, dealing with four related topics in a single volume, obviating the need to refer to several different textbooks. New aids to readers include a two-column format, glossaries of technical terms and an appendix of reference tables. The emphasis on illustrations from the first edition is maintained. The book, written by international experts, is suitable as a course textbook for students of various biomedical, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences and as a supporting text for medical and postgraduate students.
