The Corail® Hip System, one of the first to use hydroxyapatite, was developed in 1986 as an innovative solution for hip arthroplasty. It has since evolved to become one of the most used hip systems across the world, with more than 110,000 patients benefiting from the treatment each year. This book is designed as a practical manual that will serve both as a reference for surgeons training on the system and as a source of information, tips, and tricks for the more experienced who wish to learn from the cases of other surgeons. The book is divided into three main parts. The first part discusses everything that is practical about the system, including the basic science, surgical technique, treatment of complications, and the results achieved in large cohorts of patients. A full discussion of revision arthroplasty using the Corail family of stems is also included. The second part is devoted to the important issues of surgical approach, bearing options, acetabular preparation and, cup orientation and fixation. The final part focuses on the management of the patient prior to and after surgery. Health economic implications of using the Corail Hip System are reviewed, and a collection of standard and complex clinical cases is provided to which surgeons can refer when planning surgery. The book closes by examining the next 25 years for the Corail® Hip System including the future in developing countries.

In light of more clinical experience, this book reviews the principles and concepts underlying Professor Sir John Charnley’s original work Low Friction Arthroplasty of the Hip: Theory and Practice. Consistency of design, materials, principles of surgical techniques and regular follow-up of a large number of patients has offered truly long-term results to be presented in this book. Charnley Low-Frictional Torque Arthroplasty of the Hip: Practice and Results involves studies spanning from 1962 - 2015 to successfully indicate the avenues for further development and new ideas in clinical practice. With over 40 years of research included, this book is not a sudden diversion into a speculative area of hip replacement surgery. It is a carefully documented work of the evolution of the Charnley low-frictional torque arthroplasty to assist surgeons who practice this technique in their daily clinical work. .

This book reviews the most important issues related to acetabular revision hip surgery and assesses the different management procedures that are currently used in light of the challenging major defects. Since the 1970s there has been a continual rise in the annual number of total hip arthroplasty (THA) procedures which has increased the demand for revision surgeries. Most revisions operations of the hip are the result of acetabular problems and early failures are usually related to acetabular bone defects in complex primary THAs. Long-term failures are mostly due to wear debris and osteolysis-related problems and both types of complications are presented throughout the book. Surgeons with a special interest in hip reconstruction surgery will find this book to be an essential resource for successfully dealing with highly complex revision procedures. .

Cemented Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) remains one of the most successful procedures in Orthopaedic surgery. It has become very clear that it is the surgical expertise, in particular the quality of the cementing technique, which will affect long-term outcome and success. It is the intention of this book to provide an up-to-date comprehensive assessment of the entire field of cemented THA. Special emphasis has been given to practice-relevant aspects: well-illustrated and detailed operative steps as a practical guideline, a basic science chapter and long-term outcome data are provided. Minimally invasive surgery, modern perioperative management and patient fast tracking are covered. A number of highly respected experts have contributed to this in-depth compilation of the "state of the art" in 2005. This book is written and intended for both, trainees and established arthroplasty surgeons who are dedicated to perform a well-cemented THA.
