The organizers of the conference Contemporary Mathematics in Kielce 2020 warmly welcome all the mathematicians interested in that field to participate in our meeting. The conference is hosted by the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Poland, and takes place in the period from February 24-27, 2021, and will be held ONLINE, on the MS Teams platform. Our conference is held under the patronage of the President of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. The main purpose of the conference is to stimulate the exchange of new ideas in algebra, topology and geometry, and to celebrate 50 years of the Jan Kochanowski University. On the occasion of the jubilee, we plan to remember the brightest moments of mathematical research and education in Kielce. The conference will be divided into two parts - the anniversary and the scientific. The first one gives the opportunity to meet many of the former and the current employees of our Institute. The second, provides the space for scientific discussions in thematic sessions, that will be Topology & Algebra, Analysis, Geometry and Didactics. Thanks to the support of the Minister of Science and the Higher Education grant No. DNK/SP/465255/2020, there is NO CONFERENCE FEE. We would like to ask all participants to follow the conference deadlines: • Registration: February 22, 2020 • Abstract submission: February 15, 2021 • Proceedings submission: April 31, 2021 The CMK2020 conference proceedings are planned to be published with De Gruyter Sciendo. The publication is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and is free of charge for authors. The expected publishing date is the third quarter of 2021. All paper are expected to have a DOI number, and the book will be ISBN registered We warmly invite all mathematicians to share our joy and scientific enthusiasm in these special days. Open Access Statement These conference proceedings are Open Access proceedings that allow a free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users. Open Access License These conference proceedings provide immediate open access to its content under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0. Authors who publish with these proceedings retain all copyrights and agree to the terms of the above-mentioned CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.

The aim of this book is to study harmonic maps, minimal and parallel mean curvature immersions in the presence of symmetry. In several instances, the latter permits reduction of the original elliptic variational problem to the qualitative study of certain ordinary differential equations: the authors' primary objective is to provide representative examples to illustrate these reduction methods and their associated analysis with geometric and topological applications. The material covered by the book displays a solid interplay involving geometry, analysis and topology: in particular, it includes a basic presentation of 1-cohomogeneous equivariant differential geometry and of the theory of harmonic maps between spheres.

On Knots is a journey through the theory of knots, starting from the simplest combinatorial ideas--ideas arising from the representation of weaving patterns. From this beginning, topological invariants are constructed directly: first linking numbers, then the Conway polynomial and skein theory. This paves the way for later discussion of the recently discovered Jones and generalized polynomials. The central chapter, Chapter Six, is a miscellany of topics and recreations. Here the reader will find the quaternions and the belt trick, a devilish rope trick, Alhambra mosaics, Fibonacci trees, the topology of DNA, and the author's geometric interpretation of the generalized Jones Polynomial. Then come branched covering spaces, the Alexander polynomial, signature theorems, the work of Casson and Gordon on slice knots, and a chapter on knots and algebraic singularities. The book concludes with an appendix about generalized polynomials.

This book proves an analogue of William Thurston's celebrated hyperbolic Dehn surgery theorem in the context of complex hyperbolic discrete groups, and then derives two main geometric consequences from it. The first is the construction of large numbers of closed real hyperbolic 3-manifolds which bound complex hyperbolic orbifolds--the only known examples of closed manifolds that simultaneously have these two kinds of geometric structures. The second is a complete understanding of the structure of complex hyperbolic reflection triangle groups in cases where the angle is small. In an accessible and straightforward manner, Richard Evan Schwartz also presents a large amount of useful information on complex hyperbolic geometry and discrete groups. Schwartz relies on elementary proofs and avoids "ations of preexisting technical material as much as possible. For this reason, this book will benefit graduate students seeking entry into this emerging area of research, as well as researchers in allied fields such as Kleinian groups and CR geometry.
