« J'habite à mi-chemin entre la place de la République et la salle du Bataclan. Le vendredi 13 novembre, nous sommes rentrés à 21 heures. Nous n'avons d'abord rien entendu. Puis le bruit assourdissant des sirènes, l'avalanche de coups de fil. Une nuit blanche. Et le jour d'après. Une nuit semblable à celle vécue par tous les habitants du quartier. À cet égard, rien de singulier. Rien, probablement, qui vaille la peine d'écrire. C'est sur l'après, lorsque l'Événement lui-même est “passé”, que portent ces chroniques sociologiques du bas de chez moi. »Du 27 décembre 2015 au 6 octobre 2016, sur presque un an, la sociologue de la mémoire et habitante du XIe arrondissement Sarah Gensburger a tenu des chroniques sur les transformations et la vie d'un quartier, son quartier. Documentant chacune de ses réflexions de photographies prises sur le vif, c'est l'Événement et sa portée collective et/ou intime qu'elle met au jour, la manière dont se créent une mémoire et des archives du temps présent. C'est également le retour sur une année complète qui a vu la place de la République devenir « mémorial » et être « occupée » (Nuit debout). Au-delà, ce livre invite à observer nos lieux de vie, à les découvrir porteurs de traces et de mémoire, à les surprendre habités par les remous de la société et par la vie, tout simplement.

"On November 13, 2015, three gunmen opened fire in the Bataclan concert hall at 50 Boulevard Voltaire in Paris and subsequently held the venue under a three-hour siege. This was the largest in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that eventually killed 130 people and injured 500. During the aftermath of these attacks, expressions of mourning and trauma marked and invariably transformed the urban landscape. Sarah Gensburger, a sociologist working on social memory and its localisation, lives with her family on the Boulevard Voltaire and has been studying the city of Paris as her primary field site for several years. This time, memorialisation was taking place on her doorstep.
