Männlichkeiten stehen im Brennpunkt aktueller bildungspolitischer und erziehungswissenschaftlicher Debatten. Betrachtet man die Diskussion um ,Jungen als "Bildungsverlierer' scheint bereits Männlichkeit als solche ein Benachteiligungsrisiko zu sein. Gegenwärtig gibt es Bestrebungen, Männer bzw. Männlichkeiten in pädagogischen Institutionen besonders in den Fokus zu nehmen: Initiativen für mehr männliche Fachkräfte in Kindertagesstätten oder Schulen wollen durch die bloße Präsenz von Männern mehr Bildungsgerechtigkeit schaffen. Dabei wird Männlichkeit aktuell als professionelle Ressource identifiziert. Eine zugeschriebene männliche Geschlechtszugehörigkeit scheint an sich bereits ausreichend für die Qualität pädagogischer Professionalität. Konstruktionen von Männlichkeiten beeinflussen darüber hinaus die Etablierung institutioneller Strukturen. Sieben Beiträge, die sich um drei Hauptthemen gruppieren, geben Auskunft über jüngste einschlägige Forschungsprojekte. Amid the heavy politicisation and problematisation of male migrants in Europe, this ethnographic study casts new light on their experiences, struggles and everyday resistance. The author follows the journeys of those who seek, but have little hope of achieving, permanent residence status in European countries, tracking their successive migrations, detentions and deportations within and beyond the continent. She explores migrants' tactics, the impact of precarity on their lives and the dual feelings of enduring hope and powerless vulnerability they experience. This is a sensitive and insightful analysis of how the European migration regime shapes, and is shaped by, migrants' practices.

This Open Access book provides a new understanding of the meanings and motivations behind the wearing of beards, moustaches and whiskers, and their associated practices and practitioners. Concerning Beards offers an important new long-term perspective on health and the male body in British society. It argues that the male face has long been an important site for the articulation of bodily health and vigour, as well as masculinity. Through an exploration of the history of male facial hair in England, Alun Withey underscores its complex meanings, medical implications and socio-cultural significance from the mid-17th to the early 20th century. Herein, he charts the gradual shift in concepts of facial hair and shaving - away from ‘formal’ medicine and practice - towards new concepts of hygiene and personal grooming. Queering the Interior problematizes the familiar space of `home'. It deploys a queer lens to view domestic interiors and conventions and uncovers some of the complexities of homemaking for queer people. Each of the book's six sections focuses on a different room or space inside the home. The journey starts with entryways, and continues through kitchens, living spaces, bedrooms, bathrooms, and finally, closets and studies. In each case up to three specialists bring their disciplinary expertise and queer perspectives to bear.
