Von Gerkan, Marg und Partner have made an essential contibution to the development of traffic buildings. This book presents their most important building of traffic and transportation as well as projects designed by gmp from 1964 to 1996 many of them built. It also shows that their airport designs for Berlin, Algiers, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Moscow and Pyongyang were just as future-oriented-and still are today -as their most recent railway station designs for Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt/Main and Postdam.

Livré au printemps 2007, le nouveau bâtiment administratif du Centre-bus de la RATP à Thiais, signé par les architectes Emmanuel Combarel et Dominique Marrée (ECDM), semble émerger de la chaussée. Difficile de dissocier la pensée de la technique dans la conception de ce bâtiment innovant à aucun autre semblable. Morphing cinétique vertigineux réalisé grâce au Ductal® de la société Lafarge - béton à ultrahautes performances, actuel, superlatif et paradoxal -, Parkabus tient de l'image d'un mouvement de sol, d'un soulèvement, d'une émergence, pour affirmer, dans un paysage suburbain d'une absolue minéralité, son appartenance à la route et à la ville. The Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP/Autonomous Operator of Parisian Transports) is the major transit operator responsible for public transportation in Paris and its surroundings. The RATP Bus Centre in Thiais controls all the bus lines to the south and east of Paris. This administrative centre gathers several functions on the same site. Besides a post of reassured control to pilot the traffic of three hundred buses, its vocation is to receive twenty-four hours on twenty-four personnel of service and drivers to the number of 800. The RATP Bus Centre was designed by architect Emmanuel Combarel Dominique Marrec, ECDM. Both are ardent supporters of contextual architecture, taking structure, restrictions linked to function and the socio-cultural concerns of the surroundings into account.
